EPRA MAINTAINS FUEL PRICES DESPITE DROP IN SHIPMENT COSTS.

In its latest monthly review, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that fuel prices will remain unchanged from May 15 to June 14, 2025. This decision was made despite a notable decrease in the average landed cost of imported fuel products. Super Petrol will continue to retail at Ksh174.63 per litre, Diesel at Ksh164.86, and Kerosene at Ksh148.99 in Nairobi.

EPRA reported that the average landed cost of all three fuel products—Super Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene—fell in April compared to March. However, the authority stated that the final pump prices are inclusive of the 16% VAT and other statutory charges in accordance with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, and adjusted excise duties for inflation.

The move to keep prices unchanged has sparked criticism from consumers and stakeholders who expected price relief at the pump. While shipment costs have declined significantly, the overall pricing structure includes multiple components such as taxes, exchange rates, and levies that contribute to the current retail rates.

EPRA emphasized that it will continue monitoring international oil prices and shipment costs for future decisions. Consumers are encouraged to stay informed through EPRA’s regular updates and pricing reviews.
