Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has directed the Ministry of Energy, through PURA, to develop a strategic plan to help young people and local companies gain the skills needed to participate in oil and gas projects. He issued the directive on October 28, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during an oil and gas exploration licence signing ceremony.

The Vice President highlighted entrepreneur Mwizegwa Rusibamanyila, whose company operates in the Mnazi Bay gas block in Mtwara. The company employs over 50 Tanzanians, with 80 per cent coming from nearby villages. He said the success shows how local businesses can create jobs and support communities.

Ndejembi stressed the importance of preparing Tanzanians before major projects, including the LNG project in Lindi, are completed. He called for young people to be trained to work as professionals, service providers and suppliers, and recommended a special award to recognise Rusibamanyila’s contribution to the sector.
