TotalEnergies has emerged as a global energy powerhouse, providing affordable, accessible, and sustainable energy across more than 130 countries. The company’s strategy focuses on meeting today’s energy demands without compromising future resources. By collaborating with local communities, TotalEnergies ensures that every project contributes to a broader sustainable development goal. In Africa, its rapid expansion has strengthened access to energy while protecting natural ecosystems. One of the company’s standout achievements is the Tilenga Project in Uganda, a landmark initiative that plays a central role in Uganda’s oil development and regional energy supply.

For over 70 years in Uganda, TotalEnergies has established a deep presence from retail petrol stations to large-scale oil exploration. Operating more than 200 stations nationwide, it leads the downstream energy market. The company’s expansion into the upstream sector through TotalEnergies E&P Uganda has opened new opportunities for national energy independence. The Tilenga and EACOP projects are vital upstream ventures that showcase how Uganda can utilize its oil potential responsibly. This long-term investment positions TotalEnergies not just as a foreign investor, but as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic and energy development.

The Tilenga Project represents a joint venture between TotalEnergies (56.67%), CNOOC (28.33%), and UNOC (15%), all focused on developing the oil reserves of Lake Albert. The project includes 400 wells across 31 well pads in the Bulisa and Nwoya districts, expected to produce 190,000 barrels of oil per day at peak. This partnership showcases Uganda’s ability to harness its natural resources while maintaining shared ownership with local and international stakeholders. TotalEnergies’ operations are guided by strong environmental, social, and biodiversity principles, ensuring that sustainability remains at the core of oil production.

Beyond production, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) is transforming regional energy logistics. It links Uganda’s Tilenga oil fields to Tanzania’s Port of Tanga, creating a vital export route. Both Tilenga and EACOP provide around 80,000 jobs, including 11,000 directly for locals, significantly boosting community livelihoods. Safety is also a central pillar of the company’s operations, with over 20 million man-hours recorded without a lost-time accident. This dedication to safety, community empowerment, and sustainable energy delivery defines TotalEnergies E&P Uganda’s contribution to East Africa’s energy future.
