The Ministry of Energy and its affiliated institutions have achieved an impressive 95 percent performance score in the third quarter of the 2024/25 financial year, according to the latest report released by the Ministry. This evaluation, conducted by the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, covered all departments, agencies, and energy-related entities under its jurisdiction. The score reflects continued progress in meeting strategic goals within the energy sector.

A key contributor to this performance is the Ministry’s success in increasing electricity generation capacity, expanding natural gas networks, and advancing rural electrification efforts. Notably, a large number of villages have been connected to the national power grid, and natural gas distribution has been extended to reach homes, industries, and institutions. These milestones have directly improved access to energy services across the country. Such infrastructure growth is driving both economic development and public service delivery.

These findings were unveiled during the official fourth performance review session held in Dodoma, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko. He emphasized the strategic importance of the energy sector and the need for continued efficiency. “The energy sector is not only essential for economic development but also directly affects the daily lives of Tanzanians,” he stated. He urged TANESCO to pursue new energy sources and continue upgrading infrastructure to meet rising demand.

Deputy Minister of Energy, Judith Kapinga, reinforced this message, praising the commitment shown by institutions under the Ministry. She noted that the evaluation demonstrates improvements in both efficiency and impact, attributing the positive performance to the dedication of staff and leadership. The Ministry’s upward trajectory is seen as a foundation for sustaining national energy goals and supporting Tanzania’s broader development agenda.
